I found this via the Mary Sue, and it’s also been making the rounds on Facebook. Dustin Hoffman talks about Tootsie, and about how he had been brainwashed into thinking that women are only as interesting as their surface.
Well, my surface ain’t that interesting, but I’m pretty sure I have a lot to contribute, meaning that there are a lot of guys out there not knowing what they’re missing. On the other hand, if it takes for me to be “pretty” for a guy to talk to me, I don’t put much stock in him anyway. Maybe it’s true for women as well. We do judge each other based on our looks, we try to find common ground with people. One of the ways to find that common ground is to have a similar look.
Just another way to divide ourselves into groups, another way to “other” those not belonging to that group, and if you read my previous post, you know how I feel about that.
